How One Tall Family Finally Won The War With A Short Shower Door

A tall family in Rehoboth Beach, DE, loved their beach house… except for one daily annoyance. Every shower meant ducking, bending, and bumping into a too-short, box-store shower door. Mast Contracting redesigned both bathrooms with an 80-inch, glass shower door – giving them real headroom, better comfort, and a feature their entire family still talks about more than anything else in the remodel.
The Shower Door That Finally Fit Their Life &
Bathroom Remodel In Rehoboth Beach, DE
When “Standard” Bathroom Remodeling Products
Don’t Fit Real Families Or Their Lifestyles
At Mast Contracting, we’ve worked on some interesting Downstate Delaware bathroom remodels during our years in business. But one of the most memorable and surprising jobs came from Steve and Carrie H., living in Rehoboth Beach, DE.
For this bathroom remodeling project, the family’s biggest complaint wasn’t layout or color. It was something much simpler and more frustrating.
Everyone was tall, and every shower meant ducking under a low bar and bending to wash their hair.
Typically, standard shower doors are designed around average height and mass-produced specs. For homeowners over six feet tall, that “standard” quickly becomes a daily irritation.
While it might seem like a small detail, it doesn’t feel small when you have to deal with it every single day.
At Mast Contracting, we believe bathroom remodeling should solve those everyday issues first.
Yes, fancy tile is always nice. But if you still have to crouch every time you step into the shower, the charm of that beauty can wear off fast.
What Good Is A Pretty Door If It Isn’t Functional?
When our team first walked through the home, we did what we always do on bathroom remodeling projects: we asked how Steve and Carrie actually used the space. That is when the height issue came up.
Every member of their family was tall. The sons and the daughter were well over six feet tall, and the homeowners themselves were around six feet.
So that meant, for years, they had been stepping into a shower where they had to duck under a low header and lean forward to rinse shampoo out of their hair.
Just the thought sounded uncomfortable, so we could only imagine how much they were suffering from this issue.
So, instead of jumping straight into product catalogs and finish options, we focused on that problem first. In this case, comfort, safety, and clear headroom mattered more than any trendy design detail.
When It Comes To Small Issues,
Sometimes You Gotta Go Big
Naturally, raising the showerhead height was the obvious first step on this bathroom remodeling job. That part was straightforward. However, the bigger win came from upgrading the shower doors themselves.
Most standard shower doors are 72 to 74 inches tall. For an average homeowner, that might be fine. But for this tall family, it meant ducking through a low opening every single time they stepped in or out.
So instead, we installed a 5/16-inch-thick, clear-treated glass door that stood 80 inches tall.
From our first contact to working with the onsite project manager and crew, everything was extremely professional with open communication throughout the whole project.
That extra height changed everything. The family could walk into the shower without ducking, twisting, or worrying about clipping the top rail. The thicker, clear-treated glass also provided a more solid feel and easier maintenance, which mattered a lot in the busy beach house.
For us, it was simply the right product choice. But for Steve, Carrie, and the rest of their family, it was the first time their bathroom actually felt like it was built for them and not for some brochure.
Naturally, The Remodel Was Beautiful…
But The Door Stole The Show
Now, this bathroom remodeling project included two full bathroom renovations, so we had to install the customized 80-inch doors twice. So, we installed the same-size door in both bathrooms and updated everything to match the finish level the family wanted.
“We just used Mast Contracting to renovate a couple of bathrooms – what a great experience.”
But even with the gorgeous, durable materials and the finish we provided, one detail rose above the rest – the tall shower doors.
Outside of everything else, they became the real stars of the project.
Yes, Steve and Carrie’s family loved the overall remodel, but what everyone talked about most was finally being able to walk into the shower without ducking.
The project was delivered ahead of schedule, within budget, and met all of our expectations. We highly recommend Mast Contracting for your next project in Rehoboth Beach, DE.”
It was amazing how that one product decision reshaped their experience throughout the renovation.
