Overcoming Obstacles To Bath Remodeling

Most Bath Remodeling Contractors Would
Have Said No To Beth D., But We Didn’t
See How Mast Contracting Used Experience And
Ingenuity To Tackle A Challenging Installation
We never know exactly what we’ll find when we open up the walls during bath remodeling on the Ocean City, MD shoreline. Most of the time, there are no hidden obstructions to the chosen remodel plan. But every once in a while, we get thrown an unexpected curve ball.
That’s what happened when Beth D. asked us to convert one of her tubs into a new shower. Mid-project, we found unforeseen behind-the-wall issues that made the planned installation much more difficult.
In fact, experience told us that most contractors in the same situation would’ve simply abandoned their original plans. But not Mast Contracting.
With a little creative thinking, we were able to devise a suitable workaround. In the end, our creativity paid off. We finished the project as designed and fulfilled Beth’s vision for her updated bathroom!
Beth D.’s Original Bath Remodeling Design
Recently, Beth D. of Fenwick, DE, asked the team at Mast Contracting to carry out a remodeling project for her. The goal? Transforming the tub in a second-floor bathroom into a convenient, modern walk-in shower.
Beth wanted this conversion as part of a five-day Bath In A Box project. That’s the name for our super-efficient approach to updating an entire household bathroom at a standard, affordable price.
For her new shower, Beth chose a beautiful enclosure with glass doors and a sleek, linear drain. We began the project by tearing out her old bathtub and checking the plumbing system hidden behind the wall.
That’s where the difficulty began!
A Major Obstacle To Our Shower Installation Plans
As it turned out, the plumbing for Beth’s old tub didn’t work well with her preferred shower design. Specifically, its location and layout weren’t a great fit for the planned conversion. The result was a tricky problem that threatened to derail this part of Beth’s project.
Situations like this don’t occur on every bath remodeling job. But they’re not rare, either.
Sometimes, there’s an obvious fix for issues with behind-the-wall mechanical systems. However, this time, the level of difficulty was much higher.
The easy thing to do was alter the original plan and help Beth work out a new approach. Unfortunately, this would lead to a significant compromise. Beth didn’t want that, and neither did we.
Not only would such a big change delay the project. It would’ve left her with less than she’d hoped for when she hired us to do the work.
So, where most contractors would have said no to sticking with the plan, Mast Contracting said yes!
Devising A Solution For The Tub-To-Shower Conversion
There’s a reason we use highly skilled, experienced work crews on every bath remodeling job. Our team members have encountered all kinds of difficult circumstances. When problems arise, we trust them to think on their feet and devise a suitable solution.
In this case, our project foreman looked at the problem from a variety of angles. As he did so, he realized there was a way around the plumbing issue. It would take some elbow grease and extra work, but Beth’s shower design could indeed stay as it was.
Completing The Ocean City, MD Shoreline Project
With the solution mapped out, our crew quickly got back to the task at hand. From that point on, the project took on a renewed momentum.
The behind-the-wall adaptation worked as expected, and soon, Beth’s new shower walls were in place. It wasn’t long before the rest of the work was also completed, and everything was ready to go.
Not only was the project completed on time. It was completed with no change at all in the final cost to Beth!
How did we do? You can see from the included photo just how beautifully the project turned out.
