The Layout Of Joan’s Ocean City, MD Shoreline
Shower Put Her Safety At Risk, Until We
Changed It To Better Meet Her Needs
Aging In Place Became Much Easier With
Help From The Pros At Mast Contracting
The typical residential bathroom wasn’t built to accommodate older adults aging in place. It can also pose a risk to anyone else affected by limited mobility. Fortunately, professional bath remodeling on the Ocean City, MD Shoreline can readily address this common design flaw.
Joan of Selbyville, DE, was happy to discover this when she called Mast Contracting to discuss her shower layout.
Joan was in her late 70s or early 80s. To enter her shower, she had to squeeze into a narrow space.
She was afraid that, sooner or later, she would fall while doing so and injure herself.
We assured Joan that there was a workable solution. Using products that suited the situation to a tee, we altered her existing shower control arrangement. In no time, Joan had a convenient new setup and a much higher degree of comfort and bathroom safety!
Joan’s Ocean City Shoreline Shower Poses A Danger
Homebuilders typically face two issues when designing condos and freestanding houses. The first of these issues is limited space. The second is a limited amount of money to spend on each structure.
The need to work within these limitations can lead to some notable compromises. For example, bathrooms not located in master suites tend to be fairly small.
Most homeowners can safely maneuver in these cramped spaces. But that’s not true for everyone.
If you’re affected by mobility problems, navigating a poorly laid-out bathroom can be a logistical nightmare. Unless you’re careful, you could easily fall onto an unforgiving linoleum or tile floor.
The Shower And Toilet Layout In Joan’s Bathroom
What was the problem in Joan’s Delaware bathroom? For starters, her shower and toilet were both located on the room’s back wall.
But that wasn’t the real concern.
The controls for the shower were mounted on the narrow partial wall right next to the toilet. To make matters even worse, the shower door also opened on that side.
To turn the shower on and enter it, Joan had to do a delicate dance between the door and the toilet. She was sure that one day she would slip and fall.
Our Bath Remodeling Pros Devise A New Layout
The right remodeling options can solve almost any design issue in a household bathroom. That’s especially true when seasoned professionals like the team at Mast Contracting are on the job.
After checking out Joan’s shower layout, we devised a plan to improve it.
The first step was changing the orientation of the shower door. Instead of opening into the narrow space on the right, it would now open on the left, where there was a lot more room.
Next, we designed a new setup for Joan’s shower controls.
The shower head would remain on the right side of the enclosure. But the valve that turns the water on and off and controls its temperature would now shift to the left side.
Joan’s new layout also included a handheld wand as an alternative to the shower head. The valve controlling the flow between these two options would go on the right-hand wall, where she could reach it once inside the shower.
Carrying Out The Shower Upgrade
For the hardware upgrade, Joan selected products from renowned manufacturer Moen. This was a great choice.
Not only does Moen make premium-quality fixtures. Their versatile product line made it easy to find options that worked perfectly for Joan’s bath remodeling goals.
Our expert crews installed those products with their usual keen eye for detail and superior workmanship. They showed the same level of care while reversing the shower door’s orientation.
In the end, Joan had an updated shower that looked fantastic and greatly enhanced her day-to-day safety.
She was grateful for our efforts. And, as always, we were happy to help one of our customers meet their wants and needs.
